Grandma Hanover's Cookbook

What might it have been like to cook a meal in the early 1900s? As many left their farmlands and headed to urban areas, what did they use instead of bacon fat? What was Spry and would you use it today? Granma Hanover collected recipes throughout her life and it was her family's wish to place those recipes in book form for her immediate family to enjoy. When more than 400 recipes were discovered, rather than selecting only a few, it was decided to share them with anyone who might be interested; family who gave her recipes, friends who shared their favorite dishes, and anyone interested in the "old ways" of cooking. A few of the recipes include insights to assist the reader in understanding some of the more unusual directions and cooking terms. Thankfully, Grandma Hanover was not raised in a log cabin (that was another branch of the family) so recipes do not begin with "start a fire in the cast-iron stove - medium flames please".
