Le cardinal Joseph Ratzinger fait partie des théologiens qui marquent depuis plusieurs années la vie de l'Eglise. Y aurait-il un lien ou une rupture entre les positions magistérielles du cardinal et l'oeuvre antérieure du théologien, cofondateur de la revue " Concilium " et dont le livre " La Foi chrétienne hier et aujourd'hui " (1969, réédité en 1985) avait été salué pour son équilibre et son ouverture ? Cet ouvrage répond à ces questions en présentant d'abord les points essentiels de la pensée théologique de Joseph Ratzinger, théologien et cardinal (première partie) et en les confrontant aux grandes évolutions des courants novateurs en théologie contemporaine (deuxième partie).
