In the 1950s the superhero comics were on the wane but the westerns were still going strong, and Fawcett Comics was looking for a western star they could feature as the star of a new comic line. The top stars of the day – Gene Autry, Monte Hale, Lash LaRue, Hopalong Cassidy, Rex Allen and others, were all tied up with other companies – so Fawcett just made one up! Out of nowhere came Bob Colt (in reality actor Bob Holland) – the SENSATIONAL WESTERN HERO. They presented him like we already knew who he was, like some TV or movie hero (although they didn't come right out and say so) – and why not? Did we really think Gene Autry fought bad guys on the range or that Lash LaRue was a marshal? No we knew these were actors we accepted as cowboys, so Fawcett just took it s step farther and made one from scratch! Bob Colt was no ordinary cowboy, either – he fought dinosaurs and aliens as well as the banditos!
